The Investec Oaks and the Investec Derby

The Epsom Oaks and The Derby

By The UK Horse Racing Tipster

The Investec Oaks is running tomorrow and is a race for 3 year old fillies that is run just over 1 mile 4 furlongs.

It is a group 1 race held the day before the Derby at Epsom and the current going is Good to Soft, Soft in places.

The last winner of the race was the Aiden O'Brien trained Was and although the favourite, Secret Gesture hasn't won a group 1 race yet it has the top official rating of 111 and has won 2 of it's 3 races, the last being The Betfred The Bonus King's Oaks Trial Stakes run over 1m 3f 106y on Good ground.

The race before that was won over heavy going over a mile in the saxon-gate.com E.B.F. Maiden Fillies' Stakes. Therefore the horse can handle the ground, is proven over the distance and is rightly ranked as favourite.

The full listings can be seen below including the form and the official rating of each horse.

The Derby

The Investec Derby is held the day after the Oaks on Saturday and is still the most famous group 1 English classic and one of the most famous races in the world.

The last winner was Camelot who attempted the Triple Crown and failed and was recently beaten in Ireland last week.

Run over the same distance as the Oaks it is 1 miles 4f 10y and open to the best 3 year old runners around with the winner taking home a prize of £782,314.

With the class horse being the unbeaten Dawn Approach who recently won the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket over a mile and having already won 3 group 1 races including the Qipco 2000 Guineas Stakes at 11/8, the Dubai Dewhurst Stakes at 9/29 and the Goffs Vincent O'Brien Stakes at 2/5 over various goings from Good to Firm to Yielding (Irish for Heavy/Soft) the only question is can the horse stay the extra 4 furlongs?

There is some question over this and with the Irish 2000 Guineas winner Magician not running anymore the competition comes down to a few other horses.

We have the Betfred Dante Stakes winner Libertarian who has won on Soft and Good to Soft ground and has proved stamina over 1 miles 2f when he won the Dante at a huge price of 33/1.

There is also the unbeaten French raider Ocovango who has won over heavy ground and is trained by the same trainer A Fabre who ruined the Queen's day the other year when Pour Moi beat Carlton House in the Derby.

Then there is the Irish trained Battle of Marengo who is one of Adrian O'Briens 5 horses in the race but is clearly the best having won it's last 5 races and with his son Joseph O'Brien riding it. It's last four races had odds on prices with the last race in the Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial Stakes having a winning price of 2/13!

Therefore whilst Dawn Approach is unbeaten and looked as classy as possible in the 2000 Guineas there could be an upset if he fails to stay the trip and you might be wise to take up the bet offer from Bet Victor which will give you up to £50 back if he wins the race and your horse doesn't.

If you play your bets tactically then you could go for Ocovango at around 7/1 and then you are basically betting on two horses to win.

If Ocovango wins you are looking at £350 profit and if not you've got £50 back to place on another bet.

With Royal Ascot a few weeks away you could use the money to place a bet on Dawn Approach or Farhh in the Sussex Stakes or even find a nice trial to lump your money on for a guaranteed return, even at each way.

Therefore if the price of evens is too low for you to go heavy on the favourite Dawn Approach then this bet offer might be for you.

So if this looks like something you might be interested in and you regularly bet on Bet Victor and have  a horse lined up within 30 days you could be sure of getting a win with then sign up for your £50 Dawn Approach refund bet.

The Irish 2000 Guineas

The Irish 2000 Guineas

By The UK Horse Racing Tipster Today it's the Tattersalls Irish 2,000 Guineas and tomorrow it's the 1,000 Guineas being raced at The Curragh.

Aidan O'Brien is hoping to get his third consecutive win in the Irish 2000 Guineas today with Magician and his ex jockey, Johnny Murtagh, is riding Fort Knox just days after being granted a trainer’s licence!

The Brits have sent over Van Der Neer who will be hoping to better his 3rd position at Newmarket and it looks like a good race.

As with the English 2,000 Guineas it's run over 1 mile and the going is currently Good to Firm. My tip is the favourite Magician ridden by J P O'Brien and if you want some bet offers for the day then check out my latest bet offers page where you can check out all the free bets and offers the bookmakers are offering for the weekend.

As with all big races I have let you in on what my own AutoBOT thinks about the race with his own rankings for the race. Make of it what you will.

As an extra treat to all my visitors I have compiled a list of some of the bets I am placing myself today. These are alongside my usual bets which are decided by the AutoBOT and "he" usually beats me hands down anyway - that's 8gb of RAM and a 1TB hard drive for you compared to a head with concussion.

Anyway here are my own tips for today.

Some are "whispers" I have heard from connections and others are win bets I just don't think will win but will place.

So many times I have lumped on the favourite only for it to come 2nd.

Of course the winnings will be much less but as favourites win roughly 30% of races and place in 70% then if you just re-work your stakes you can increase your chances of making money by using the place market on Betfair.

Just remember the earlier you put your bet on the more chance you have of your price being matched and I have had some really mad place prices matched lately including a 33/1 SP 2nd placer at 20.00 in the place market!

First Classic of the UK Flat Season - The 2000 Guineas

First Classic of the UK Flat Season - The 2000 Guineas

By The UK Horse Racing Tipster

This is the first UK classic of the year, a race held at Newmarket which is run over a mile.

The going is currently Good to Firm, Good in places and the race is set to go off at 15:50.

The following table is the AutoBOT's rankings for the runners in this race. Whilst yesterday's ratings were premilary and based on their last race. These were calculated this night and took into consideration the going, the course, the jockeys and the other runners (e.g past meetings etc).

The AutoBOT seems to have gone for Toronado and I am following it!

Horse Rating
Toronado (121) 455
Dawn Approach (124) 397 (fav)
Garswood (115) 353
Van Der Neer (114) 353
Kyllachy Rise (0) 260
Mars (0) 198
Cristoforo Colombo (112) 184
Glory Awaits (95) 133
Moohaajim (116) 124
Dont Bother Me (103) 98
Correspondent (92) 97
Leitir Mor (115) 76
George Vancouver (117) 71

So whilst Dawn Approach has the highest official rating and is currently the favourite, Toronado has distance and going wins under his belt and has the highest rating my own personal ranking system came up with.

Lets just hope it's a great classic and just the first of the year!

1000 and 2000 Guineas Betting Offers this weekend

1000 and 2000 Guineas Betting Offers this weekend

By  The UK Horse Racing Tipster

With the first flat classics arriving this weekend we are all eagerly awaiting the 2000 Guineas to see if the unbeaten Dawn Approach can remain unbeaten or will Toronado be able to snatch a victory. Maybe the JP O'Brien mount of Cristoforo Colombo at odds of 15/2 could snatch the race away from the favourites - we will have to wait and see.

I don't expect to see a Frankel like 2011 sprint for the whole mile but we never know! We might be in for a treat and who knows which 3 year old will take all the honours this year.

However as its the first weekend of classic group 1 races we also have a number of betting offers by the bookies which you should take advantage of if possible. Why bet with your own money when you can bet with theirs?

The Guineas Classic Betting Offers

From SkyBet.
"Toronado (2/1) looked like an aeroplane when winning the Craven Stakes and the Hannon camp are excited about his prospects. He is reported to be in the form of his life. Garswood (12/1) is an attractive price for each way punters and has come in for sustained support this week. The horse was impressive in the Free Handicap and although that race hasn't been a significant trial in recent years it was a taking performance.

I fancy Toronado to win the race, but really like Garswood to make the frame and if each way punting is your thing he could be one to finish in the three."

Alex's view is backed up by Garswood's trainer Richard Fahey who says:

"Although it looks like a good race with the front two in the betting looking hard to beat, we still think that he could run into a place at an each way price."

Betfair are the most popular exchange for people to bet against each other.

On big race days they have special markets such as 6 place payouts and I have even seen 10 or even 20 place payout markets on some big race days such as the Grand National!

You can also often get very good place only prices on their place markets if you don't want to back the horse to win. For example this weekend if you don't want to bet on Toronado or Dawn Approach to win but think they are both going to place then you might throw down a lump on both in the place market on Betfair.

This might be ideal for your 3rd or 4th horses with higher prices as you can get odds as good as win prices just for just a place sometimes.

If you join Betfair you will get a free £25 put back into your account whether you win or lose your bet. You just need to put £25 on a horse within 30 days of signing up for them to redeem this offer.
