Laying all runners in a market in-play

Not a good day yesterday, apart from the PLACE DOUBLE and the Multi Day Place Accumulator winning (on to day 3 tomorrow) we had half another PLACE DOUBLE due to a non runner but all the WIN SINGLES lost as well as the only LAY bet.

Luckily my AutoBOT didn't manage to place the LAY bet due to the price I wanted not being matched which meant I didn't lose a lot.

Something interesting I am working (or hoping to work on) is based around an article I read on false-favourites.co.uk about LAYING all runners IN-PLAY. The logic is sound but the flaw is the fact I never get to watch a race unless its Saturday and all my betting is automated so a clever spec is required.

From initial tests the majority of prices (especially for the good horses in the race) drop during the event so that with some good logic and programming it should be possible to automate a scenario in a market with enough cash spread across the runners to make a profit most of the time.

I have been trying it out manually on Betfair by selecting the "Lay All" option, and then putting the same amount and price for all runners e.g £2 stake and 2.00 (evens).

On saving none of the bets are usually matched (especially if you do it way before the race) so after the initial save instead of choosing to take the SP or Lapse on play you chose the "Keep In-Play" option and re-save. This way when the race starts all your bets will be kept int the market stack and have the opportunity of being placed right up until the end of the race.

If you only LAY the winner you only lose £2 but if you LAY the winner and one other horse you make and lose nothing.

If you LAY the winner and two other horses you make £2 but if you manage to LAY all the runners in the race you will always make a profit as only one horse can win and the number of losing runners minus the winner will always ensure a profit.

However matching all runners at an even price across the market is quite unlikely unless it's a high class race where there are multiple joint favourites and no silly priced horses - so all runners between 3/1 to 8/1 SP.

Therefore I am looking into some clever maths combined with multi threaded coding to ensure that my BOT only places bets during the first half (or up to the last furlong or two) of the race and doesn't use the Keep In-Play option but just keeps trying to iterate through the runner collection, checking prices and amounts available to bet trying to place LAY bets on as many runners as possible. 

This code has to take into account the bets already placed and the current liability and potential profit so that only bets that don't turn a potential profit into a loss are placed even if the prices and bet amounts are all different per runner - this is where the clever maths comes in. The aim is to always make a profit and trade out if possible to minimise a potential loss.

Without watching the race OR even the market flux on Betfair it will be quite hard to gauge who is currently winning (price changes are relied upon) but by not keeping the betting code running until the end of the race I will reduce the number of bets placed purely on the winner - anyone will take a back price of 2.00 when the horse in question is 8 lengths ahead nearing the finish line.

This is why the Keep In-Play option can often leave you with no profit or even a loss by only laying the winner. The price is key to getting multiple bets placed.

We will see how it goes if I don't die from the Cancer eating me away from the inside first that is!

How gutting was it to get to the last step of the multi day accumulator and lose because Prospect Wells ran so poorly yesterday!

Well that is the name of the game and even though the multi day place accumulator goes back to day 1 we still had a couple of WIN doubles and PLACE doubles and a good comment from Ian Williams on www.fromthestables.com let me get a late PLACE bet on Cotillion at a good Betfair price of 4.10 which came in 3rd.

At the end of the day my betting bank had doubled with enough to put away in the "safe" kitty - not to be used unless in emergency mode. It sits there getting added up and then once I have made enough I withdraw it to spend whilst keeping a full betting bank.
